Mel Hayner is the owner of the Driftless Fly Fishing Company. He has been fly fishing and tying flies for over 40 years. He has over 25 years of fly fishing experience in SE Minnesota and has been guiding others for over two decades. His passion is showing the others the joy of trout on a fly and the beauty  of the driftless area. From beginners to long-time anglers, Mel can get you on fish in some of the most beautiful places on the planet.

Fly fishing the Minnesota Driftless since 1998. Teaching fly fishing since 2015. She grew up trout fishing in Michigan and Oregon.  Discovering the Driftless area more then 20 years ago reignited her passion for trout fishing. She is a past President of Fly Fishing Women of MN. She has found her passion at encouraging women and youth to fly fish.  When she is not fishing she teaches young children including aquatic environments in her curriculum.

 Tim Carver -guide instructor, sales
Tim has been fly fishing the Driftless area since he was a kid. He casts to anything that swims and can put you on smallmouth, musky, carp or trout. he specializes in the more northern water of the zumbro valley, Whitewater and knows the warm and cold water streams of the Driftless well. whatever your preference tim "knows where they live!" and can help you catch more fish. stop by the shop for friendly advice or get him on the stream. He ties his signature streamers in the shop by "Flat brim Tim" and knows how to use them.  

Eric Anderson Guide-Instructor, and sales.
Eric has been fishing for 30+ from summer warm water fisheries to ice fishing the cold north lakes. Eric has been fishing the driftless area for 10+ years he has expert knowledge on the coldwater springs of the SE Minnesota area. he also has experience, and knowledge of fisheries across America traveling to fish many locations. he enjoys the natural and beautiful places that fishing can bring you to. Eric is an avid angler and outdoorsman he will put you on the fish.

In Memoriam: Brian Schumacher, Janet Veit

Brian and his wife Janet Veit passed away while on  fly fishing trip in Iceland on May 20th 2018. They will always be in our hearts and part of our fly shop

Guide Brian Schumacher was a patient, friendly and knowledgeable teacher on the water with a hard-working attitude. A lifelong resident of the Minnesota Driftless Area, Brian was an avid outdoorsman and ardent fly angler. His passion for fly fishing took him along with his wife and fellow fly fishing enthusiast, Janet Veit DVM, to the streams of the high Sierra Nevada range in CA to the Connecticut and Androscoggin Rivers in New Hampshire and many destinations in between. When a fly rod is not in hand, a shotgun would accompany Brian afield hunting turkey, deer, upland birds and waterfowl.  
When not actively pursuing fin, fur and feather himself, he was writing about it and had many articles published in Midwest Hunting & Fishing and Explore Minnesota magazines.
