STREAM CONDITIONS AND BLOG
The scorching heat is beginning to break but by planning your outings to the stream during the early morning and late afternoon hours you can still encounter some fantastic fishing! This is the time of the year when fish are eager to eat as there is a plethora of food available to them. With that being said, success is being found with many different flies in the box, depending on the water characteristics one encounters. BH nymphs, Terrestrials (Hoppers/Ants), BH Wooly Buggers, Dry Flies (Caddis/Parachute Adams) and Soft Hackle emerger patterns produced the fish pictured below. Stop by the shop, talk with staff about what is currently working, stock up and hit the water this lovely Labor Day weekend.
Melvin Hayner is the owner of The Driftless Fly Fishing Company in Preston, Mn. He has been fishing this area for over 23 years and guiding here for over a decade. Some reports will be from other reliable sources around the Driftless area. Thanks guys.
