STREAM CONDITIONS AND BLOG
Wow, what a difference a day makes .... this weekend brought mostly sunny skies and temps in the mid 40's and this morning we woke up to temps hovering in the high 20's and 7 plus inches of snow. With that being said, reports I have heard from folks on the water today say that fishing is solid and that the snow is bringing us some much needed moisture. The streams are running clear with the lack of a fast runoff but low due to relatively low amounts of precipitation this winter. I ventured out in the gorgeous Minnesota Driftless Area Saturday and was rewarded with a phenomenal Brown trout which stretched the tape to 19". The fly of choice for this bruin was a nymph pattern I tied using hair from one of our Abyssinian cats as the dubbing material. That being said, the good Ol' "go to" patterns such as the Beadhead Hare's Ear and Beadhead Pheasant Tail nymph patterns are generally successful in fooling fish here in SE Minnesota.
