Today was an extra special day for anglers in Minnesota as not only did we usher in 2017 but also the opener of the catch & release trout season. Temps only crept into the low 30's but it felt down right balmy with little to no wind and full sun. The trout today were in their typical winter haunts - in deeper pools and by structure providing cover not only from predators but the elements as well. I discovered today that Pink Squirrel nymph patterns with an indicator and Woolly Buggers worked through pools on a dead drift was what triggered strikes.
