STREAM CONDITIONS AND BLOG
The Minnesota Driftless Area has seen some rather substantial rain events over the last week which has left some area streams quite stained and a bit high. With that being said, one only needs to do a little scouting because there's plenty of fishable water with most tributaries running clear to only slightly stained. Even in the clouding, turbid water I discovered on Friday that a larger profile fly like a black BH Wooly Bugger was key and landed a few Browns pushing the 17"-18" range. For the streams running clear to slightly stained the BH pheasant tail & BH Hare's Ear nymphs continue to be productive and the area is still seeing decent Caddis hatches so switch to an Elk Hair Caddis when the fish are rising - smaller has proven to be the key.
