WOW-Christmas has come and gone. the new year starts catch and release, artificial lures and flies only fishing in se Minnesota today. the flows are good in the root river watershed due to recent rain and some snow melt. the cold weather and water make the trout lethargic, but some nice fish have been taken recently on streamers. clouser minnows and cone head baby browns have worked. not much rising but look for midges on warmer days. looking forward to a great year as we enter our 11th season with the fly shop in Preston. we will be kicking off our new driftless fly fishing adventure podcast soon and updating the YouTube channel with new videos of se Minnesota and other travel adventures with mel and the crew. coming episodes will cover not only how to, where to, fly fishing in se Minnesota but also tu events, conservation and environmental issues around the state and country. we will have guest speakers and our in-house experts discussing various topics and trophy fly fishing destinations through our partners in travel Orvis adventures and fly water travel. we will be booking and hosting trips and outfitting you for your destinations at an amazing discount on gear for your trip. just call or email mel if you are thinking about travel to warmer destinations. mel will be posting new videos from the rogue river and other steelhead destinations in Oregon in a few weeks (January 23 -February 8) and white river in Arkansas in February, the san juan in new mexico in the fall 2025. check out the blog, podcast and you tube channel for upcoming exciting, new driftless adventures, tips, tricks and methods for catching more and bigger trout in se Minnesota plus new trophy destinations. thanks to all our customers and friends for supporting the driftless fly shop for a decade and hoping for many more. mel
